50 quotes to lift and inspire

Between the dreaming and the doing, lies the making it happen. Setting forth in pursuit of your dreams is a difficult journey to begin. It takes honesty, courage, determination, self-belief, and an unwavering focus. As I wrote in my last post, it takes a village to raise a dream. Below you will find 50 quotes from some of the voices in my extended village. They are the voices I choose to listen to when I can’t hear my own clearly enough. Listen with your heart and take from them the strength to follow your own dreams. They are all worth chasing.

Hannah, I love them all. It’s so hard to choose a favorite. Thank you for gathering these together. I’ve added some new ones to my beloved quote book.

Hannah February 4, 2012 at 17:00

Thanks Kim. I love collecting quotes – I literally have hundreds I’ve saved over the years so will probably do a follow up post at some point to share more of them 🙂

Jeremy or IHeartTravel February 3, 2012 at 18:38

I knew the moment I read the title of this post I would love it!
Some of these already have a home on my growing wall of quotes, and thanks to this post some more will be added !
I share one of the quotes that I really love:
“Your time is limited, so don’t waste it living someone else’s life. Don’t be trapped by dogma — which is living with the results of other people’s thinking. Don’t let the noise of others’ opinions drown out your own inner voice. And most important, have the courage to follow your heart and intuition. They somehow already know what you truly want to become. Everything else is secondary.”
-Steve Jobs

Hannah February 4, 2012 at 17:02

Thanks Jeremy – and that’s an awesome quote. Steve Jobs was such an incredible man, a true inspiration. Thanks so much for sharing 🙂

Wonderful List Hannah. Thanks for putting this together. One I found recently that I’ve been holding onto is “Good is the enemy of great.” It’s simple but its a reminder that ‘good enough’ really isn’t something to strive for.

Hannah February 4, 2012 at 17:04

Thank you Liz. It was fun to write this post 🙂 I love your quote, wise words indeed xxx

Renee February 3, 2012 at 21:39

Caroline @ Traveling 9 to 5 February 4, 2012 at 02:01

Great Quotes! – I always keep a list of my own to turn to when I need an inspirational reminder! Here is one of my favorites:
“Traveling is a brutality. It forces you to trust strangers and to lose sight of all that familiar comfort of home and friends. You are constantly off balance. Nothing is yours except the essential things – air, sleep, dreams, the sea, the sky – all things tending towards the eternal or what we imagine of it.” – Cesare Pavese

Hannah February 4, 2012 at 17:46

Thanks Caroline. Great quote, thanks so much for sharing 🙂

Molly February 4, 2012 at 06:53

Love this… so many amazing quotes!

Sandra February 7, 2012 at 03:43

‘Leap and the net will appear.’ I wish I believed that.
I love travel and I want to do more but it takes MONEY to do it. I love the Caribbean and that’s where I want to spend half of the rest of my days (the other half back here at home because I just became a grandma so I can’t leave now!!).
I spent a month in the BVI this past May and I tell you… it’s heaven. GO if you can.

Hannah February 7, 2012 at 20:49

Thank you for your comment Sandra, though I must admit it made me kind of sad. I really do believe in that quote, and am living proof that taking that first leap is enough… eventually the net will be there to catch you in some shape or form. I had no money and was £15K in debt but I managed to pay it off in less than a year and started planning a life of travel. Anyone is capable of doing the same, you just have to work at it and, most importantly, jump. I hope your dream of living in the Caribbean comes true – I’m sure they have some pretty amazing nets there. Good luck xxx

Sam February 18, 2012 at 11:02

Hi Hannah, I have just come across your blog and it has inspired me enormously. I started out as a traveller and adventurer, but am now in a full time job and have become rooted and settled. I always thought that this was the ‘right’ thing to do, but after an initial diagnosis of a brain tumour in 2010 I have just found out I have further treatment. Once this is over I am going to throw in the ‘right’ life and follow my adventurer path once again. Your site has reminded me of what is really my dream. If you don’t mind I’d like to repost some of your quotes as they are so inspirational. I wish you all the luck in the world with your saving and travels!

Hannah February 18, 2012 at 18:10

Hi Sam, thank you for your lovely comment; I am honoured that you have found it inspiring. I cannot imagine what difficulties you must be going through… I truly hope you come through this and you are able to live out your dreams of travel. I will certainly be following your journey and routing for you all the way. Oh, and please do repost any quotes at all – they are there to be shared and enjoyed. Best wishes xxx

John Robberson April 17, 2012 at 14:54

Excellent post and goals you’ve set.
We appear to be on the same path. I wish you well, I know you’ll succeed.

Hannah April 17, 2012 at 20:34

Thank you so much John, that really means a lot. It’s funny, but I have always known this dream would come true… we all have the power to bring our dreams to life. I wish you all the best with your own dream 🙂

Steph - DiscoveringIce.com May 19, 2012 at 05:32

Wow Hannah, love this! I am a huge fan of inspirational quotes! I think I need to start a notebook too, great idea!
“The future belongs to those who believe in the beauty of their dreams.” really stood out to me, it’s so beautiful! I will have to share that one soon. Also Sarah and Kim’s quotes are AMAZING! I am going to check out their blogs now!
Will definitely be coming back to this post for future inspiration! 🙂

coco October 19, 2012 at 16:49

Thank you for this post – I’ve had a rather terrible day and stumbling upon this collection of inspiring quotes is exactly what I needed.
“Leap and the net will appear.” – This was applicable recently to two of my friends who took rather big risks with their jobs, which paid off for them both. I’m still finding the confidence to leap! x

Hanne January 19, 2013 at 11:45

HI Hannah,
congratulations on a truly great blog. I like your quotes a lot, the’re very inspiring. 🙂
Happy travelling in 2013!
Love Hanne
from the Far North

Hi Hannah, I love reading inspiration quotes. One of my favorites is by Kahlil Gibran:
“Forget not that the earth delights to feel your bare feet and the winds long to play with your hair.”
This quote reminds me to enjoy the simple things in life and not be afraid to live a life of peaceful simplicity.

Allan August 18, 2013 at 22:54

As soon as we accept life can be hard, it gets easier, acceptance.

Hannah August 21, 2013 at 10:09

Thank you Allan, very wise words indeed.
